Vigilantyx articulates a condition in which alertness becomes permanent. Following emotional withdrawal in Apathor, the work examines the transformation of awareness into an internal surveillance system — a state where attention is no longer episodic, but continuous.
The object is structured around tension rather than mass. Mechanical components remain exposed yet unsettled, suggesting systems that never fully disengage. Unlike earlier works, where time was suspended or accumulated, here time is fragmented — broken into intervals of anticipation and reaction. Motion is implied, but never completed.
Duality functions as a feedback loop. One side reveals an interior of dense mechanical concentration, registering constant readiness and latent threat. The reverse offers a reduced surface that appears calm, yet carries the imprint of internal strain. Together, they express the contradiction of vigilance: composure sustained by exhaustion.
Material choices intensify this condition. Reflective elements are restrained, surfaces remain controlled, and mineral inclusions resist clarity. Nothing is decorative. Everything is positioned to maintain awareness without release. The object does not rest; it holds.
Within the diagnostic progression of Kings & Pawns, Vigilantyx represents the phase in which power is no longer externalized. Control is internalized, maintained through self-monitoring rather than command. The individual becomes both subject and regulator, enforcing discipline from within.
As a wearable object, Vigilantyx functions as a silent instrument of attention. It is not worn to assert presence, but to maintain readiness. The work records a condition in which the body remains poised indefinitely — alert not because it chooses to be, but because it no longer knows how to stop.
