In Natura Morta Rests, the horizontal condition reaches full stabilization.
If Lying Down introduced the reclining axis as structural shift, Rests consolidates it. The composition settles into a compressed lateral band, suspended between the dark upper field and the exposed white lower plane. The architecture does not collapse; it is held.
The mass appears heavier here. Forms cluster more densely, edges soften, and internal distinctions blur. The image seems to breathe under pressure. Rest is not release — it is containment under gravity.
The upper vault remains curved, enclosing the field without sealing it. The lower white expanse continues to function as threshold — a space of exposure beneath the accumulated weight of form.
The still life no longer performs.
It endures.
Equilibrium is preserved.
Existence is treated as horizontal architecture under sustained tension.
